Henna Services & Booking
All bookings are to be made by phone as each design is customized and requires some discussion. A $30 deposit to hold the appointment is taken by credit card during the phone session. (initial consultation can be started by email/text). No-shows or cancellations in under 24 hours will forfeit the deposit amount.
Private Appointment at the Blue Lotus Henna Parlor:
$100 per hour
Melanie is available for private appointments 7 days a week, daytime and evenings.
Sessions are held at the Blue Lotus Henna Parlor in inner SE Portland and can accommodate up to 6 guests.
This is a wonderful way to spend time being adorned with friends or escape from the bustle of daily life for some peaceful time and Melanie’s undivided attention.
Pricing/time depends on the individual size and intricacy of each design. Allow for an additional 20-30 minutes for drying and careful wrapping of your design (this is done as a complimentary service for the best results)
How to prepare for your appointment:
Exfoliate your skin and leave it dry (no oil or lotion). Remove any hair from the area by shaving (clippering hair down to the skin is fine). Wear appropriate clothing to easily expose the part of the body. Plan to relax for the rest of the day and to avoid water (no exercise, housework, or bathing).
If planning to wear henna/jagua for a specific occasion, it is ideal to have it applied 2-3 days beforehand to give it time to oxidize and darken to it’s full luster. If traveling, it is ideal to apply it the day before your trip.
Bridal Packages
Packages range from about $500-$1,000 depending on the exact amount of coverage and design style. After discussing the details with you, Melanie will give you a package quote. Intricate bridal coverage is split into 2 sessions over 2 days. Please be prepared to fit this into your schedule.
Booking Fee to cover administration time and design planning, $100.
Outcall for Parties & Events: $120 per hour
Melanie and her team can travel out to add spice to parties and events of all kinds: birthdays; baby showers; bachelorettes; college events; weddings; bar/bat mitzvahs; corporate functions…Henna is always the hit of the party, so make sure to book well ahead of time!
There is a 2 hour minimum for outcalls and a travel fee based on distance.
Outcalls for private sessions are available as well- 2 hour minimum + travel.
Pregnancy Belly Henna: $160-$220
Pregnant women are traditionally adorned with henna for blessing and protection from the evil eye. Henna is applied in the third trimester (the later the better).
Belly henna makes a gorgeous addition to maternity photo shoots and is a fascinating activity for baby showers/blessing ways, where the guests can receive henna too.
Private Belly sessions at the Blue Lotus Henna Parlor: $160 (approximately 2 hours)
Belly Deluxe Package at the Blue Lotus Henna Parlor: $220 (includes belly henna, foot soak, hand treatment and herbal tea & gourmet snacks. Approximately 2.5 hours)
Baby Shower Belly Henna only: $160 + travel
Baby Shower Belly Henna + Guests: $160 + $120 per hour for guests + Travel
Blue Lotus Henna uses only fresh, natural henna with pregnancy safe essential oils (we do not recommend using Jagua on pregnant women)
10% from every belly session is donated to the Bumi Sehat Foundation in Ubud, Bali to assist less privileged mothers to give birth naturally and safely.
Precaution
If you have any of the following conditions while pregnant, you should avoid using henna: G6PD deficiency (glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency); hyperbilirubinemia; anaemia; any chronic or acute condition which affects your immune system. It is always wise to consult your doctor/midwife before using henna when pregnant.
Henna Crowns for Cancer Patients
Henna “crowns” are a healing and empowering adornment for those who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy. Crown sessions take around 2 hours and are very relaxing. We recommend having crowns done in the morning if possible. The henna stain lasts an average of 2 weeks on the scalp.
